Handle profiles are recessed aluminum channels fitted along the top edge of a drawer front or door so that the fingers grip the profile instead of a handle – the hardware behind handleless kitchens and bathroom vanities. The T18 profiles in this category are 137-3/4 inch (350 cm) long extrusions for 18 mm (about 3/4 inch) fronts, supplied in anodized aluminum, chrome anodized, inox (stainless-look) anodized and matte black, and in two cross-sections: the single recessed profile and the "channel II" variant with a deeper grip.
How a recessed handle profile works
A T18 profile is a C-shaped channel. One leg is screwed or glued to the top edge of the front, the second leg sits behind the front and the curved section between them forms a continuous finger grip across the full width of the door or drawer. Because the grip is machined into the profile and not attached to the front, the face stays completely flat – the same visual effect as a long handle rail, but flush. On a run of base cabinets the profile reads as a single dark or metallic line under the countertop, which is why it is the default choice for minimalist kitchens.
Profiles in this category
- Recessed profile T18 in anodized aluminum – the neutral, silver version for light and wood decors.
- T18 recessed profile, chrome anodized – a brighter, mirror-like finish that matches chrome appliance trims and faucets.
- Recessed profile T18, inox anodized – a brushed stainless-steel look for professional-style kitchens.
- T18 recessed channel profile, matte black – for black, anthracite and dark wood fronts.
- Recessed channel II T18, anodized aluminum and channel II in matte black – the second cross-section with a deeper grip pocket for taller fronts and heavy drawers.
Planning and cutting
- Front thickness: T18 profiles are made for 18 mm boards, the European standard for kitchen fronts; a 3/4 inch (19 mm) front usually fits with a light sanding of the edge, a 5/8 inch front needs a different profile.
- Length: one 350 cm bar yields, for example, four 800 mm or five 600 mm drawer fronts with offcuts; measure every front and plan the cuts to minimize waste.
- Cutting: use a fine-toothed blade (60 teeth or more) on a miter saw or a hacksaw with a miter box; deburr the cut with a file so the anodized surface does not chip.
- Fixing: most installers pre-drill the profile every 150–200 mm and screw it to the top edge of the front with 3.5 x 16 mm screws; a bead of construction adhesive adds stiffness on long drawer fronts.
- Clearance: allow about 1/8 inch (3 mm) between the profile and the countertop or the front above so fingers fit comfortably and the door can swing.
Where handle profiles make sense – and where a handle is better
Profiles suit drawers and base-cabinet doors where the grip is at hand height. On wall cabinets the grip would sit at the lower edge, which works for lift-up doors but is awkward for tall hinged doors; many kitchens therefore combine profiles below the countertop with push-to-open hardware or slim edge pull handles above. Heavy pot drawers on heavy-duty drawer slides benefit from the deeper channel II grip. Where a classic look is wanted, kitchen cabinet handles, cabinet pull handles and cabinet knobs remain the alternative, and the profile handle category lists surface-mounted rail handles.

Handle profiles are usually fitted together with soft-close drawer systems, undermount drawer slides and soft-close hinges, so that the handleless front also closes quietly. The complete handle range, from black cabinet handles to brushed nickel cabinet handles, is grouped under furniture handles.
Frequently asked questions
Can I fit a T18 profile to an existing kitchen?
Yes, if the fronts are 18 mm thick and there is room above them. The old handle holes must be filled; on painted fronts a filler and touch-up paint are enough, on laminate fronts a new front is usually the better result.
What is the difference between the recessed profile and channel II?
Both mount the same way; channel II has a deeper grip pocket, so the fingers reach further behind the front. It is the more comfortable choice for tall drawers and for users with larger hands.
Which finish should I choose?
Match the profile to the dominant metal in the kitchen: anodized aluminum or inox for stainless appliances, chrome anodized for chrome trims, matte black for black taps, hinges and dark fronts.
Does the profile replace the handle on every front?
On drawers and base doors, yes. On wall units the grip would be at the bottom edge; combine with push-to-open fittings or short handles there.
